Online Privacy

Online privacy is about controlling who can observe, collect, and correlate your digital behavior - your browsing, app usage, location signals, and identifiers. A VPN can help by encrypting traffic between your device and a VPN exit, masking your public IP address, and reducing exposure on untrusted networks. But privacy is layered: VPNs do not erase tracking cookies, account logins, device fingerprinting, or data you voluntarily share. Effective privacy combines multiple practices: use HTTPS, limit third-party trackers, separate identities (work vs personal), keep devices updated, and be mindful of app permissions. VPN selection matters because the provider (or exit node operator) becomes a new trust point; a privacy-focused service should have clear data handling practices, strong leak protection, and transparent operations. DVPN designs aim to reduce centralized trust, but they also require you to think about exit node reputation and route selection. Build a simple threat model: what you’re protecting (content, metadata, location), from whom (Wi-Fi snoops, ISP profiling, targeted surveillance), and what tradeoffs (speed, convenience, cost) you accept. Privacy is not a single product; it’s a system of choices.
